The incident happened in the city's west end on Sunday afternoon
Ottawa police have shot and arrested a man after responding to a weapons call in the city's west end on Sunday afternoon.
Police say they were called to the 100 block of Bayshore Drive at around 3:30 p.m. for reports of a man armed with a knife and a replica firearm.
When officers arrived, they say the man refused to drop his weapons and advanced towards them. One officer fired a single shot, striking the man in the leg.
The man was taken to hospital in stable condition. He has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and assaulting a peace officer.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate the shooting.
The SIU is an independent civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
