Hurricanes' Offense Explodes for Five Goals in Victory
The Carolina Hurricanes continued their hot streak on Saturday night, defeating the Ottawa Senators 5-2 at PNC Arena. The win moved the Hurricanes into second place in the Metropolitan Division, one point behind the Washington Capitals.
The Hurricanes got off to a fast start, scoring two goals in the first period. Andrei Svechnikov opened the scoring just 2:05 into the game, and Teuvo Teravainen made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 14:35.
The Senators cut the lead to 2-1 early in the second period on a goal by Brady Tkachuk, but the Hurricanes answered back with two more goals from Sebastian Aho and Jesperi Kotkaniemi to make it 4-1.
The Senators got one back on a power-play goal by Tim Stützle late in the second period, but the Hurricanes added an empty-net goal from Jordan Staal in the final minute to seal the victory.
Canes goalie Antti Raanta made 25 saves for the win, while Senators goalie Cam Talbot stopped 29 shots in the loss.
The Hurricanes will be back in action on Monday night when they host the New York Rangers. The Senators will be back in action on Tuesday night when they visit the New Jersey Devils.
Svechnikov Leads the Way with Two Goals
Andrei Svechnikov had a big night for the Hurricanes, scoring two goals and adding an assist. The 22-year-old Russian now has 20 goals and 22 assists in 39 games this season.
