Zelenskyy Pleads for More Aid as Biden Visits Ukraine
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made an urgent plea for additional military and financial aid during US President Joe Biden's surprise visit to Kyiv.
Biden's visit to Ukraine marks the first time a US president has visited the war-torn country since the Russian invasion began nearly a year ago.
During a joint press conference with Biden, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the significant support Ukraine has received from the US and other Western allies, but emphasized the need for increased assistance.
Zelenskyy specifically requested additional air defense systems, artillery, and long-range missiles to counter Russia's ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure and military targets.
"We have to stop the Russian aggression, and we can do it only together with the United States and other partners," Zelenskyy said. "This is not just about Ukraine's freedom, but about the freedom of the whole of Europe and the world."
Biden reaffirmed the US commitment to supporting Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression, promising continued military and financial aid.
The US has already provided Ukraine with billions of dollars in military assistance, including weapons, ammunition, and training. The Biden administration has also imposed severe economic sanctions on Russia and provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Biden's visit to Kyiv is a powerful symbol of US solidarity with Ukraine and a clear message to Russia that the West remains committed to supporting Ukraine's defense.
The visit comes as Russia is expected to launch a new offensive in the coming weeks, and it is hoped that Biden's visit will bolster morale and strengthen Ukraine's resolve.
