Pittsburgh Steelers Waive Jamal Agnew Ahead of NFL Kickoff
Former Pro Bowler Fails to Make Pittsburgh's Final Roster
The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the release of Jamal Agnew before the start of the regular NFL season. The 27-year-old wide receiver and return specialist had been with the team since March 2022 but failed to impress during the preseason.
Agnew's Steelers Stint
Agnew signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh after spending four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite his Pro Bowl selection in 2020 as a returner, Agnew struggled to secure a starting role with the Steelers.
During the preseason, Agnew recorded just three receptions for 15 yards. His lack of production and inconsistent performances on special teams contributed to the team's decision to release him.
Future Prospects
Agnew is now a free agent and available to join any NFL team. However, his poor performance during the preseason could make it challenging for him to find a new contract.
The Steelers, meanwhile, will move forward without Agnew as they prepare for their season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 11.
