Philippines wins two special awards in 71st Miss Universe

MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe Philippines Celeste Cortesi bagged the Preliminary Interview award in the 71st Miss Universe pageant in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).

Cortesi and Miss Dominican Republic Andreina Martinez tied for the award, which was announced during the pageant's preliminary competition.

However, it was Cortesi who won the award via lucky draw, according to the Miss Universe Organization.

This marks the second time that a Filipina has won the award. Catriona Gray is the first when she won in Miss Universe 2018.

Meanwhile, Miss Curacao Gabriëla Dos Santos won the Headshot Challenge, while Miss Thailand Anna Sueangam-iam won the National Costume competition.

The coronation night of Miss Universe 2023 will be held on January 14, 2023 (January 15 in Manila).
