North Carolina Tar Heels: A Season Preview

Running Backs

The Tar Heels' running back position is led by junior tailback Michael Carter. Carter is a dynamic playmaker who has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons. He is also a threat in the passing game, with 30 receptions for 340 yards and two touchdowns last year.

Behind Carter is a talented group of running backs, including sophomore Javonte Williams, junior Josh Henderson, and redshirt freshman D.J. Jones. Williams is a powerful runner who has shown flashes of brilliance in his two seasons with the Tar Heels. Henderson is a speedy back who can make plays in the open field. Jones is a physical runner who has impressed the coaching staff with his work ethic.

Quarterbacks

The Tar Heels' quarterback position is a bit of a question mark heading into the 2020 season. Senior Sam Howell is the incumbent starter, but he has struggled with consistency in his two seasons as a starter. Howell has a strong arm and can make plays with his feet, but he needs to improve his decision-making and accuracy.

Behind Howell is a talented group of quarterbacks, including redshirt freshman Jacolby Criswell and true freshman Cameron Rising. Criswell is a dual-threat quarterback who has impressed the coaching staff with his athleticism and arm strength. Rising is a highly touted recruit who has the potential to be a star in the ACC.
