Montana Grizzlies Football
The Montana Grizzlies football team represents the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. The Grizzlies compete in the Football Championship Series (FCS) of the NCAA Division I as a member of the Big Sky Conference. Montana has won four national championships. The Grizzlies have appeared in the FCS playoffs 23 times, including 16 times in the past 20 seasons.The Grizzlies play their home games at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, a 25,000-seat facility that opened in 1986. The Grizzlies have a long-standing rivalry with the Montana State Bobcats, and the two teams play for the Brawl of the Wild trophy. The Grizzlies also have rivalries with the Idaho Vandals, Eastern Washington Eagles, and Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

The Portland State Vikings football team represents Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. The Vikings compete in the Football Championship Series (FCS) of the NCAA Division I as a member of the Big Sky Conference. Portland State has won one national championship, in 2015.The Vikings play their home games at Hillsboro Stadium, a 7,500-seat facility that opened in 2013. The Vikings have a long-standing rivalry with the Montana Grizzlies, and the two teams play for the Joe Salem Trophy. The Vikings also have rivalries with the Eastern Washington Eagles, Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, and Idaho Vandals.
Big Sky Conference
The Big Sky Conference is a conference of 13 member schools in the western United States. The conference competes at the Football Championship Series (FCS) level of Division I football. The conference was founded in 1963 and is headquartered in Ogden, Utah.The Big Sky Conference awards automatic bids to the FCS playoffs to the winner of its regular season and to the winner of its conference tournament. The conference has sent at least one team to the FCS playoffs every year since 1997. The Big Sky Conference has also won four national championships.

The FCS consists of 13 conferences and 131 teams. The FCS playoffs are a 24-team single-elimination tournament that concludes with the FCS National Championship Game.The FCS was created in 1978 as a way to divide Division I football into two levels. The FBS consists of the Power Five conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC) and the Group of Five conferences (American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, and Sun Belt). The FCS consists of all other Division I conferences.
