McTominay on Italy move: It was a big decision for me, my family and my mates
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has revealed that his decision to move to Italy was a "big decision" for him, his family and his friends.
The 26-year-old joined Serie A side Roma on a season-long loan deal in August 2023, after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford under new manager Erik ten Hag.
In an interview with The Times, McTominay admitted that leaving Manchester United was a difficult decision, but one that he felt was necessary for his career.
"It was a big decision for me, my family and my friends," he said.
"I've been at United since I was a kid, and it's been a huge part of my life.
"But I felt like I needed a new challenge, and I think Roma is the perfect place for me to develop my career."
McTominay has been a regular starter for Roma since joining the club, and has helped them to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
He has also scored two goals for Roma, including a stunning strike in the 2-1 win over Inter Milan in November.
McTominay says he is enjoying his time in Italy, and is grateful for the opportunity to play for Roma.
"I'm really happy here," he said. "I'm playing regularly, I'm scoring goals, and I'm learning a lot from the coach and the players."
"I'm really grateful to Roma for giving me this opportunity, and I'm determined to make the most of it."
