Match Stopped As Hungarian Coach Suffers Medical Emergency

Game called off as Adam Szalai receives medical attention

Hungary's Nations League match against England was halted on Tuesday after a member of the coaching staff collapsed during the second half.

The incident occurred in the 64th minute of the game at Puskas Arena in Budapest when Adam Szalai, a former striker who is now an assistant coach, fell to the ground in the technical area.

Medics rushed to Szalai's aid and he was given CPR before being stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital.

Match Abandoned

The match was abandoned shortly afterwards, with England leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai.

In a statement, UEFA said: "The match has been abandoned due to a medical emergency involving a member of the Hungarian coaching staff.

"UEFA wishes Adam Szalai a speedy recovery and will provide further updates in due course."

Szalai In Stable Condition

The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) later confirmed that Szalai is in a stable condition in hospital.

In a statement, the MLSZ said: "Adam Szalai is in a stable condition in hospital after suffering a medical emergency during the match against England.

"He is undergoing tests and his condition will be monitored closely.

"The MLSZ wishes Adam Szalai a speedy recovery and would like to thank the medical staff for their quick and professional response."

Similar Incident

The incident is similar to the one that occurred during the Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland when Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest but was resuscitated and has since made a full recovery.

The incident has raised questions about the medical protocols in place at football matches and whether more needs to be done to ensure the safety of players and staff.
