Lions rule out TE Sam LaPorta
Surgery needed after suffering hamstring injury, per report
LaPorta injured hamstring during Thursday's practice
The Lions will be without tight end Sam LaPorta for the rest of the season, the team announced Friday. LaPorta suffered a torn hamstring during Thursday's practice and will require surgery, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
LaPorta, a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been a key part of the Lions' offense this season. He has 34 receptions for 338 yards and three touchdowns in nine games.
The Lions will now be without their top two tight ends, as T.J. Hockenson was traded to the Vikings earlier this season. Brock Wright and James Mitchell are expected to see increased roles in LaPorta's absence.
The Lions are 3-6 this season and will face the Bills on Sunday.
