Fontana Rocked by 3.5 Magnitude Earthquake

Moderate Quake Causes Minor Damage, No Injuries Reported

Residents Shaken, Structural Assessments Underway

A 3.5 magnitude earthquake shook the Fontana area on Tuesday morning, causing minor damage but no reported injuries. The quake struck at 5:34 a.m. Pacific Time, with its epicenter located about 4 miles northeast of Fontana, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake was felt across the Inland Empire, including in the cities of Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, and Ontario. Residents reported feeling shaking and hearing a loud boom. Some buildings sustained minor damage, including cracked walls and broken windows.

No injuries have been reported, but structural assessments are underway to ensure the safety of buildings. The Fontana Fire Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department are responding to the incident and assessing the damage.

"We're asking residents to stay calm and follow the directions of authorities," said Fontana Fire Chief Tony Bommarito. "We're working to ensure everyone's safety and to assess the damage."

The earthquake is the latest in a series of small quakes that have hit the Inland Empire in recent months. Geologists believe the quakes are caused by the movement of the San Andreas Fault.

Residents are urged to be prepared for aftershocks and to have a plan in place in the event of a larger earthquake. More information and resources are available from the USGS website.
