Evans' 20 leads Bobcats past UC Davis 27-0
Porter contributes two interceptions, defense records third straight shutout
Freshman running back adds 11 carries and 98 rushing yards
BOZEMAN – Jaleel Evans and the Montana State defense each recorded impressive performances to lead the Bobcats past UC Davis 27-0 at Bobcat Stadium.
MSU's defense netted three interceptions, held the Aggies to 212 total yards, and has now recorded three consecutive shutouts this season. It's the first time the Bobcats have held an opponent scoreless for three straight games since 1979.
"The defense is playing phenomenal," Evans said. "Coach Choate and the whole defensive staff have been preaching to us about stopping the run and making teams one-dimensional. That's what we were trying to do today and we were very successful at it."
Freshman running back Isaiah Ifanse came within two yards of posting his second straight 100-yard rushing performance. He carried the ball 11 times for 98 yards.
MSU scored first on a 46-yard field goal by Tristan Bailey. Evans pushed the Bobcats' lead to 10-0 with a 63-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter.
Porter intercepted an Aggie pass early in the third quarter to help set up a three-yard touchdown run by Ifanse that extended MSU's advantage to 17-0. The Bobcats would score once more on a one-yard touchdown run by Evans with less than two minutes remaining in the third.
The Bobcats return to action Thursday at No. 1 South Dakota State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. MDT and will be broadcast by ESPNU.
