Daily Dawg Chow 11/14: Browns news; getting healthy coming off the bye, Isaiah McGuire's opportunity and more
Cleveland Browns look to end 6-game slide, get healthy coming off bye week
The Cleveland Browns are coming off their bye week looking to end a six-game losing streak. The Browns have been hit hard by injuries this season, but they are expected to get some key players back for their game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson is expected to start after missing the last three games with a concussion. Running back Nick Chubb is also expected to return after missing the last two games with a calf injury. Defensive end Myles Garrett is also expected to play after missing the last game with a shoulder injury.
The Browns are hoping that getting some of their key players back will help them turn their season around. The Browns are currently 3-7 and in last place in the AFC North.
Isaiah McGuire starting at safety for Browns with John Johnson III out
The Browns will be without safety John Johnson III for their game against the Bills. Johnson is dealing with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss multiple games.
With Johnson out, Isaiah McGuire is expected to start at safety alongside Grant Delpit. McGuire has been a key contributor on special teams this season, but he has limited experience playing safety.
The Browns are hoping that McGuire can step up and fill the void left by Johnson. McGuire is a physical player who has good instincts. He will need to be able to make tackles and cover tight ends in order to be successful at safety.
Browns sign Kellen Mond, waive Josh Rosen
The Browns have signed quarterback Kellen Mond and waived quarterback Josh Rosen. Mond was a third-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent last season on the Vikings' practice squad.
Rosen was signed by the Browns in September after Watson was suspended for 11 games. Rosen started three games for the Browns, but he struggled and was benched in favor of Jacoby Brissett.
The Browns are hoping that Mond can provide depth behind Watson and Brissett. Mond is a talented young quarterback with a strong arm. He will need to develop his accuracy and decision-making in order to be successful in the NFL.
